The keen eyed amongst you might have noticed that our website is not quite the same as it was last week. As part of our consolidation with Leaf Books and our desire to improve the website, we have moved away from the Flash based solution used previously and this… this is the result.

So you’ve probably heard I’ve been asked to provide you wannabe experts in the field of experimental-physical-molecular-faux science a simple guide to taking over / destroying the world. So I present to you; Dr Deadstar’s 12 Step Guide to Global Domination.’
Step 1 – Picking the Name
‘You can’t have a good plan without having a good name to go with it, you’ve all heard that the suit makes the man, well a name is like a suit for a plan. After all Dr Huben Von Stikenmos did not become famous overnight by creating the slightly annoying sound generator. No, he made the hypersonic death dispenser and invaded the moon! So names are important and here are some handy tips to help you out when trying to name your schemes.’
-Make it sound grander than it actually is. No one ran in terror from a mild injury ray.
-Make it easy to remember. Dr Finkle was forgotten after creating the ornithopic re-animating resulting in a large explosion machine. If no one can remember what brought about the downfall of humanity it might as well not have happened.
-Use alliteration where possible. The classics never die, we’ve all heard of the doomsday device.
-Finally, make sure the name lets people know vaguely what your plan entails, or what your invention does but keep them guessing too. Suspense adds to the fear and awe of your creation, but if they have no idea what is going on then you will generally be ignored.

So it’s been a little while since you last heard from us here, and Doctor Deadstar has been dashing about the lab like a madman (pun intended) as we got ready for the busy year ahead of us all.
Firstly I would like to thank everyone who came to see us at the Cardiff Comic Expo, it was great to see such support for Cardiff’s first comic and small press show, so much that they have already agreed to do a two day show next year! Hopefully you all had a really good time too and got to see lots of awesome people and buy much funky stuff.
So onto other events this year! So far we are booked for Bristol and you should be able to see us at Thoughtbubble 2011. We will also be sending our writers and artists up and down the UK to see you all for signing events and readings, so be sure to keep an eye out for those.
And last but not least – new releases!
Tausha Duffey’s ‘Scraps of a Soul’ will be hitting sheleves and digital shops near you soon, along with our first full length novel by B John Shaw Liddle ‘Suncaller’ and newly signed to Deadstar Publishing, ‘Thackeray’ a comic by Kris Wozencroft and Joanne Chong.
It’s shaping up to be a great year, assuming Doctor Deadstar doesn’t drop the Dooms Day machine, again.
Less than a week to go and it’s all getting rather exciting. With signed goodies available as well as a chance to talk to some of our writers and artists, Thought Bubble 2010 promises to be, as Bill and Ted would say, ‘most excellent’ (insert air guitar rift here).

Jaque Thay will be signing copies of his book ‘Jaque’s Magic Beans & Other Stories’ on the 26/08/2010 from 1-4 in the Cardiff branch of Forbidden Planet. Turn up, have a chat and generally have a good time.
The Oxfam readings in Bridgend, Pontypridd and Tonypandy were a great success with a receptive attendance. Well done to both Jaque Thay and Lynda Nash who did an excellent job in helping this good cause.
