This book swings between fantasy and science-fiction with influences of the traditional fairytale subverted and modernised for the contemporary audience. Like a modern, male Angela Carter, Jaque’s story ‘Monster’ perfectly reverses the roles of mankind and foe, as does his piece ‘The tides are changing’ which also holds a stark environmental warning.

His micro-fictions (he calls “twictions”), which can also be found on his public Twitter profile, offer glimpses into mankind’s inability to show attention to the world in which we live and the life that goes on around us.

Overall, I would recommend this book to people of all ages and genders. Serious in places but thought-provoking and cleverly witty in others this refreshing collection of short stories will have you gripped from page one right through to the end!
